Theo Fox: Storm Drain A summary of the Blackhawks vs Hurricanes game as the inability to hold a lead and take advantage of extended PP time got Chicago back in the L column.

Plus, updates on Marc-Andre Fleury trade rumors and prospect captains.

When you have game breakers like DCat and Kane....and have a decent PP. you just have to limit the chances and goals against. For over 2 years now we have been horrible at giving up way too many shots and high quality chances. A complete change is needed.

It's going to be difficult to change my mind away from Wiedeman for play by play guy. Grew up listening to hockey games on the radio and I notice this when he's the tv stand in. He's good at it.

It looks like Eichel has been traded to Vegas, not sure on the return package yet.

Edit: It looks like Tuch, Krebs, a d-man and a 1st round pick are part of the package. It will likely be a dollar for dollar type of trade.

Wonder what happens if Eichel’s surgery leaves him unable to play in the short or long term?

While I agree that Nylander has been a big disappointment, particularly considering his brother’s success, his draft position, and how we traded someone we liked for him… he’s still only 23 and has been mismanaged and hurt for most of his young career. He got fast tracked in Buffalo on a horrible team, then traded for a guy drafted 20 picks later than him. Then he gets top line jobs with the Hawks in the bubble and can’t hang. He’s been hurt all through last year, and then starts this year in Rockford as everyone talks about his last chance.

Dominik Kubalik didn’t play a single NHL game until he was 24, Alex Nylander is 23. I know they’re not the same but Nylander hasn’t been given a shot on a single winning team. The Hawks bubble team was bad, Buffalo was bad, this team is clearly bad. Let’s see if he can do anything in Rockford, or anything when the Blackhawks fire Colliton a dozen games too late. The kid can skate, which is the first thing any scout looks for, the rest is a giant question mark but I’m not giving up yet.

- ObeseOprah

Thought this was a good post from the last blog. Nylander may end up being nothing more than he was when we last saw him in a Hawk sweater, but at this point, he and Reichel are about our only prospects that look to have potential top 6 skill.

Saw other posters giving up already on Dach last night. The kid's still 20 FFS. Maybe we could at least wait til January when he turns 21 to label him a BUST. Agree with some who said a stint in the A may have been a good place for him to hone his game. Still think it's a dumb rule that the only path for some of these kids is go back to juniors or go to the NHL without the AHL being an option.

Also, agree with everyone on Fleury. Gus may have got caught on Jarvis' goal but that one and Necas' goals MAF should have had.

For those that whined about Crawford's play, this is what actual bad GT'ing looks like.

In the Sun-Times today... Patrick Kane's return from COVID-19 quarantine has made the most dramatic difference. He followed up his out of the blue hat trick Monday by getting multiple points against the Hurricanes. "We were joking that we all need a 10-day vacation" Toews said. Sorry Johnny, but your team has already taken a 10-game vacation.

Dach has to contribute more plain and simple. I know he is a year removed from a injury just not sure how it effects him playing. I'm hoping there's more to his game other than being hyped up.

How many losses do we need to accumulate before said coach gets canned? Season is pretty much done playoffs wise so why not make the change.

The 1st round pick Vegas is sending to Buffalo is top 10 protected. Not just top 2, or even top 3 or top 5 protected, mind you, but top 10.

I guess the Hawk offer of Strome, Connelly and a 2023 3rd wasn't enough.

Yes the new guy doing the last 2 games is not a big league announcer. Two of the goals scored by the opposition last night were announced so weakly that I did not know that goals had been scored until I saw the players celebrating. Now if you are an extreme homer it's okay but that does not make you a good announcer. Wiedeman is good but it would be better to break in a younger game announcer.

I would wait until we hire a new GM, and let him decide on coach(es), scouts, player development personnel etc.

Thinking about it, i guess what really bothered me about last night's game is, we were up 3-1 but the way we played with the 2 goal lead you would of thought the Canes were winning 3-1.

Seth Jones with a terrible pinch gets bailed out by Gus once, the 2nd time not so much, and it's Jones who turns the puck over. I understand a forward has to cover for the dman but isn't there any responsibility on the pinching dman?

Basically all the Canes had to do is sit back and wait for the Blackhawks to try to force something with a 2 goal lead. At what point does a defenseman say hey were up by a couple of goals maybe i should only be aggressive on the plays i know i can make.

Very frustrating and sure if they were a bit more conservative maybe Carolina still wins, I'd rather have that than giving it away.

That McCabe pass was brutal last night, and the overreaction playing defense trying to make up for his terrible pass just compounds the problem.

Just to be clear i was frustrated with Dach skating the puck into the boards last night and turning it over, 5, 6, 7 times

How does McCabe's JFresh card look so far this year? He is playing so bad, wish we would of done the arbitration deal with Zadorov, only one year and less dollars.

You can see why Seattle selected Quenville. I wouldn't want anything else the Hawks offered up on the team (and that includes JC's superstar of the moment Carpenter) either.

I get wanting some physical grinder types in the lineup. But putting Khaira AND Carpenter AND Reese Johnson AND Hardman AND Entwistle over Strome for a team that's fourth-worst in the league in goals per game, man, that's a CHOICE.

I dont get it, it's like watching a college football coach go to the NFL and think his system will work in the NFL without a franchise QB

Those 4 minutes Reese played, i think, were really valuable

Hard to tell what their level is playing Junior, College, and AHL players on defense and now offense the last three years at least. Wondering what decent powerplay you are watching because it's not in Chicago and wasn't under Q either when we were a good team.

I would expect to give up a lot of shots when you have amateur/AHL players (Boqvist, Beaudin, Kalynuk, Carlsson, Gilbert, Mitchell, at Forward Nylander, Dach, Perlini, Gaudette, Borgstrom, Kurashev, R. Johnson, Quenville, the list goes on) against NHL players. It only takes one or two D-Men out of 6 to make huge holes for the other teams.

I think the coach makes it too complex because the team sucks! My defense would have 5 players standing in front of the goalie.

I don't think he is saying that Strome is necessarily THE difference maker, but if you ask me would I rather see Carpenter with 5+ minutes of PP time or Strome with those same PP minutes......I think I take Strome every time.

Carpenter is a 4th line player, nothing more, ever. He shouldn't be getting 18+ minutes a night playing on a line with Toews. Way too many sequences die on his stick.

Everyone should probably prepare themselves for the fact that the new GM is probably already in place. Kyle Davison will probably eventually just have the interim tag removed.
